Michael’s story

Life at Thorndene

Michael had been living in another care home for about a year and was struggling to cope with less support than he’d been used to at home.

One day a visit was arranged to Thorndene and Michael immediately decided this was where he wanted to be and has been here since that day.

He was initially living in the main house, with full residential care, but gradually and steadily made progress back to his old self with the love, care and support of the wonderful staff here at Thorndene.

I have lived here for a long time with my friends. I have my own room and a big TV that I watch my DVD’s on. I like to sing on my karaoke.

I like going to my centre and my in-house day when I clean my room and cook dinner for my friends. The staff help me.

I go out for meals and to the cinema. I’m going on holiday with M and K tomorrow.

When the opportunity arose for him to move into Supported Living in Minnis Beeches with his friends, Michael decided that this was what he wanted to do. As his parents I think we wondered whether he would have enough support, but any concerns we had were totally unfounded and he has thrived under the excellent care of Natasha and her team.

Michael has a full timetable of outside activities as well as time in-house shopping, cooking and managing his cleaning and washing.

Minnis Beeches is Michael’s home and whilst he visits his family regularly, he is always pleased to be back at Thorndene. We, his family, are very happy that he now has his own home with friends and staff who genuinely care for him.
